How to use Cefepime
- Cefepime injection is available as a powder that must be mixed with liquid or as a premixed solution that must be administered intravenously (into a vein) over a 30-minute period. Cefepime injection can also be administered intravenously (into a muscle). It is typically administered every 8 to 12 hours for 7 to 10 days.
- Cefepime injection can be given at a hospital or administered at home. If you will be receiving a cefepime injection at home, your healthcare professional will instruct you on how to administer the medication. Make sure you understand these instructions and contact your healthcare professional if you have any concerns.
- During the first several days of treatment with cefepime injection, you should begin to feel better. Call your doctor or health care specialist if your symptoms due to the medication do not improve or worsen.
- Even if you feel better, continue to use cefepime injection until the prescription is finished. If you discontinue or skip doses of cefepime injection, your illness may not be completely treated, and the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics.
